Term Travel Reflection

1) Being a music performance student here at the University, it speaks directly to my academic and personal interests in participating in this purposed May Term Travel Course. As a classically trained flutist, and one who frequently engages with music from the Classical era, the whole experience would be an excellent opportunity for me to immerse myself in the culture and atmosphere that directly influenced the many compositions I come into contact with on a daily basis. As a scholar, it would grant me the ability to absorb not only factual/historical information regarding composers and events of that era, but also interact with the world and society shaped these people and their works. As a musician, it would better inform my performance practices and deepen my appreciation for the pieces I perform, ultimately allowing me to translate that into a greater and more rewarding experience for the audience and myself. …show more content…
I unfortunately did not get the typical college experience. I transferred to the University as a junior from Pasadena City College, after loading up every semester with a full course of classes in order to complete my degree in two years. Since I transferred from Pasadena, I have striven to maintain my strong academic performance, which I can haply report has been going well so far. I enjoy learning, and of all the classes I have taken at the University, I have found pleasure in taking each one. This travel term would be another opportunity to not only learn about something new, but also experience it. Ultimately, it would a great way to end my undergraduate career, by engaging with something I love on a level that would not have been possible before due to lack of opportunity, time, or

What does it truly mean to be intellectual? Some may say that being intellectual means being book smart, while others say that it is being street smart. In an entry of “Hidden Intellectualism” by Gerald Graff, Graff believes that one can actually become intellectual if they start learning about topics they actually enjoy and then slowly start easing into challenging topics. While many argue that intellectualism is limited to the studies of school, non-academic activities such as traveling and truly experiencing these events can teach one about the history of a place, the culture, and how to solve problems. When asked why people decide travel they just say that they travel for vacation, but what they do not realize is that traveling is a learning experience.…

Because of my love for the state of Idaho, my personal values, and my desire to obtain an education without going into debt, I will be attending Brigham Young University- Idaho in the fall. This institution is situated in a beautiful place in Idaho; central to skiing, climbing, and hiking which is the best, most hands-on way to experience the state. When I envision my life, I see it being rooted in Idaho. Though I may live somewhere else for a few years or travel, I cannot imagine what life would be like in a place where tourism does not involve potatoes and white water rapids. I want to contribute to this state, just like all of the fabulous people I know who have helped me grow into someone I can be proud of.…

Attending college is everybody goal in life especially for the family of the persons who is going, yet nobody tell us what to expect for our first semester. For instance, my family didn’t tell me about how the food would be, the finical aid, and the phone service. Don’t being told of what to except when you’re a first time student is very frustrating, because when you find out about something you’re in shock mood at times when you are told information. When you are behind on a college class and are counting on spring break to catch you up on your work the last thing you want to hear is that you are going overseas for the first time in your life. That’s what happened to me this year and while traveling to a new country, especially one that I have never heard of before, sounded like an amazing experience, I still was hesitant on a few minor details like the flight time of 13 hours going there and 15 hours going back and the fact that I had already planned to hang out with a friend I get to see like 3 times a year I was not completely sold on the idea. I was focusing on the negatives though, which in the end, had little to no effect on the experiences that I would face going to this new country…

Memories are amazing things to cherish, and those are what I am hoping to gain on our school trip to Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee in March 2017. This trip is a couple months before I graduate and having this memory to remember all of my life, would be nothing less of spectacular. I can see myself sharing stories of what I did and what I got to experience on this trip to my own kids one day, hoping they get to enjoy something like this as much as I would. I am hoping this trip also helps me gain confidence and leadership. Being a senior, a lot of underclassmen look up to you.…

When I was in high school I saw a brochure for a study abroad program to England. At that time, it would have been impossible for me to participate because of the cost and health problems in my family. I put that dream aside until I discovered the Literary London program with the English department, which I think I’m a perfect fit for. I’m a senior at the University of Washington completing an English major with a minor in History. This is my second year at the University of Washington, I came in as a first year junior transfer student last year.…
