It is estimated that around 3.5 million people in the United States face homelessness each year. Over 1 million of these people are children. Across America, it is estimated that there are as many as 300,000 homeless children in the streets each night. Homelessness is not limited to those who live on the street. You can be living with a family member and still be technically homeless. There are also people living in hotels that are technically homeless.
More than half of the reported cases of homelessness are families with children. Many people that are homeless are victims of circumstance. They most vulnerable of these people are the children. Homelessness has the potential to affect us all. Most of us have known someone who has become homeless. This goes to show how prevalent homelessness is in today’s world. It is all around us. Though it is getting better, there are no signs that this epidemic will ever end in the United States.
There are many reasons that people become homeless. Some of these reasons, many of us can identify with. It is common that major, life altering events contribute to families and individuals becoming homeless. A family’s life can be torn apart in the blink of an eye.
