History can be observed through many different events and times. Some people dictate history by the wars fought, some by the art of that era, but the book “The History of the World in 6 Glasses” does it by drinks. Those 6 drinks would of course be, Beer, Wine, Spirits, Coffee, Tea, and Cola. Throughout History, these drinks have been prominent and each have had incredible significant value in their respective periods. Some were used as currency, while others as a status symbol. However, due to the class being based on the second half of History, we will only be going over the second half of the drinks: Coffee, Tea, and Cola. Coke did its best to advertise in a way that would make it seem like buying coke would help end the War. It went on throughout its short burst in time, to be the most poplar drink of the age , selling millions and billions of bottles world wide. Overall “ A History of the World in 6 Glasses” was an incredibly rich and interesting tale. It takes things that people know about and see every day and connects them to the roots of our ancient history. It teaches that some of our favorite drinks have been around for much longer than we expected. It also shows the wonderful history of the world as well as the drinks that are connected to them. The book was well written and I found my self in shock at some numbers and events that it taught me. If anyone needs a quick brush up on world history, and doesn’t have the time, this book is definitely for them. As long as people need water to live, beverages will be a huge factor in society and culture. Many beverages will come and go, but a select few may remain in homes for a very long
