Herd describes the impact of hip-hop music with focusing her research on sexuality and gender roles and explains how much this genre stereotype men and women. By saying, “…that images of manhood in rap music are hypersexual, misogynistic, and violent” (Herd 580). Comparing and contrasting literature such as the Journal of Black Studies and the Journal of Criminal Justice and Popular Culture, to really help show how these stereotypes are true or not. The article displays how hip-hop music show how women are considered “unfeminine”, men are “aggressive”, and the genre degrades and objectifies women. The article specifically focuses on the gender and sexuality role hip-hop portrays which helps me focus my research on how stereotyping men and women impacting vulnerable adolescents. I found it interesting how at the beginning of the article she lists all the stereotypes, degrading, and objectifying remarks of what other people have thought about hip-hop music, but at the end, she uses contextual evidence to disprove them. Then she goes on to say how in order for “people” to judge the music, they have to understand it first, and that’s why it makes me want to further research on music affecting
