A man by the name of Hernan Cortes sought to take over New Spain in the hopes of accomplishing his goals. Hernan Cortes was not a wealthy man, however when he came to New Spain wearing nice armor and riding on horses, Montezuma mistook him for a deity who left New Spain but claimed that he would later return. Montezuma was afraid so this gave Cortes time to prepare for what he planned to do in order to take over the land.
One of the main reasons that Cortes and his people sought to take over was for wealth. New Spain was very rich in gold and silver so this was not difficult for them. Cortes did this by making allies with some of the indigenous people there. Cortes kept a strong army, even though they became small in size over time due to all of the fighting. Even when Cortes lost in battles or did not do as well as he could, he along with his army came back even stronger, and defeated them the next time. Lastly, Cortes kidnapped Montezuma due to Cortes finding out that Montezuma killed some of his people, which then led to another vicious battle with the
