Working in a group is much more effective than working as an individual because in a group you have a wide range of resources, a better chance of being accurate, a greater commitment to achieving goals, and a more diverse perspective. In turn, these reasons mentioned are not always accessible if an individual decides to work alone. To go more in depth, a group is able to collect and then combine each individual’s resources to solve a problem or complete a task. Also, accuracy is another reason as to why a group is more efficient when completing a task rather than an individual. Cohesiveness is the tenacious kinship and devotion that members have towards their group as a whole. In turn, this bond allows for a group to function in a rather productive manner. Additionally, in order to improve the overall efficiency of a group through cohesiveness, one must consider one of the subsequent potential factors. One of them being, a mutual intention, purpose, or goal that is present between a group of individuals, this is further generating an enticing bond between members. Another element is the amount of progress a group is making towards its’ goal. Therefore, their progression shapes both negative and positive attitudes of which each member has about/towards the group. Likewise, shared norms and values is yet another aspect concerning a groups productiveness. If members share a common ground of norms and values, this will later eliminate the impending misunderstandings/disagreement that revolve around an individuals cultural beliefs. Another contributing factor regarding a group’s cohesiveness is the way internal competition/criticism affects the group’s ability to function. If the group is exhibiting cohesiveness during a clash in opinions they will respectfully reach a consensus, whereas a group lacking such cohesiveness may rather separate. Equally important, when a group is facing external conflict/criticism, they are more willing to put their differences aside. In other words, it is creating a stronger connection between a group’s members. Furthermore, a group’s cohesiveness grows when each member of a group plays an important and distinct role in reaching a solution/completing a task. Otherwise, if a task clearly only requires the use of a single individual, there is no reason/purpose for a group. A part of cohesiveness group member’s employ is sharing a joint fascination and relationship for one another, in order to keep the group afloat.
