The Greek Civil war may have been the most uneventful war in Greece history but it was very much the bloodiest. The war was a two-stage process from 1943-1949, in mostly northern Greece. The main reason for fighting was that the communist party of Greece (the KKE) wanted to spread communism into Greece. The Greek Government and anti-communist groups, however, were very against this idea and wanted to preserve the country from communism. The Greek Government wanted to stay as a democratic country and after seeing what happened to Germany in World War 2 they wanted to stay far away from communism. Most of Greece was unaware of these attacks and went along with their lives as normal. These anti-communist groups weren't run through the government but the had the same motives as the government, they wanted to stop communism. After having Nazi Regime trying to invade Greece and make them a communist country, these anti-communist groups had had enough and if the Government was not going to do anything they were. These anti-communist groups had been attacking the KKE in the mountains for multiple months and eventually, the Greece government found out of these attacks. With the government also being against these communists they decided to help the anti-communist groups. Once the Greek Government stepped in the Greek Civil war had officially started. After having so much confidence going into the war the KKE was shocked to see the power of the Greece Government. The KKE received help from The Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Albania. The KKE was able to use this help to set up camps and strongholds along the Bulgarian and Albanian borders. From these borders, the KKE would use guerilla tactics to attack and weaken the Greek Army. They would run out of their territory and attack greek soldiers and officials and then retreat to their camps. The guerrilla attacks proved very useful as the Greek Government has no answer. The war looked like it was shifting in the KKE favor, they had the public on their side and the battlefield on their side, but soon going to
