Introduction
Gravimetric Determinations of BaCl2 from a mixed sample is the name of the experiment. This experiment also known as gravimetric analysis. Gravimetric analysis is the calculation of analyte concentration precipitation, isolation, and weighing (Filho, 2014). The two key concepts to note in this experiments are Gravimetric analysis and Mole Calculations. Some previous knowledge in these area is recommended. The objectives of the experiment are as follows: 1- Calculate the quantity of a substance in a mixture using gravimetric analysis 2-Strengthen the comprehension of mole calculations 3-Acquire experience in lab techniques and equipment. First, the initial mass will be measured. The mixture will then be exposed to extreme heat so that excess gas can escape. If gently heated properly the solution should produce crystal particles (Sealy, 2015) the remaining material is then cooled. …show more content…
Obtain crucible with cover then heat crucible with hottest part of the flame for 5 minutes (I.E. blue tip of flame) to clean residue from it. Let crucible cool to room temperature. Obtain unknown sample with instructor and record vial number. Add 1.8-2.0 g of sample to crucible and measure mass of sample with crucible. Place crucible inside of clay triangle and begin heating it with the hottest part of the flame. Once the crucible turns bright red, continue heating for 15 minutes. Remove the crucible and cool to room temperature then record the mass. Repeat heating process until sample is melted. Remove residue in to watch glass and insert into incubator. Let sample sit inside for 15 minutes, then remove and record mass. After recording mass, repeat previous step until mass difference is less than .002g. Record final mass and begin
