Hydrogel Lab Report

Decent Essays
Question: What do you mix to make hydrogel?
Claim: Hydrogel is formed when salt, water and polymers are mixed together.
Reasoning: We measured the mass of the grains and polymers. The grain's mass was 2.1 grams after we subtracted the Dixie cup. The polymer's mass was over 210 grams because of the mixture. To construct the experiment we carefully cut open the diaper over a ziploc bag and carefully collected the grains into a corner of the bag avoiding breathing them in. We then cut the corner of the grains into an ice cream cone shaped and dumped them into a Dixie cup to be measured. After we got the grains measure we then poured them into a 300-400 mL beaker and added 100 mL of distilled water, We then stirred it right away and eventually

Purpose and Background Cells divide in two ways, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is used to produce cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell for growth, asexual reproduction, or repair after injury. Cells that are produced by mitosis are diploid, meaning that they have two complete sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. Meiosis is used to produce haploid cells that have only one set of chromosomes, a mix of chromosomes from both parents. Meiosis produces cells that are genetically unique from their parent cells.…

For our diffusion experiment our group decided to work with salt water and gummy bears. Our experiment tested the weight of the gummy bears per salt dilutions. Our tests included 1g 2.5g 5g, 1.5g, and 10g of salt diluted with water. We knew that the higher the concentration of salt diluted into the water the heavier the diffused gummy bear would be, therefore we measure weight as our numerical data. My hypothesis was that the 10g dilution of salt would have the gummy bear with the largest mass.…

With the before and after measurements in two graphs, one can easily figure out that no matter which solution the bear is soaked in, it will increase to some extent. In tap water, the gummy bear started with a mass of two point eight grams and changed 217.9 percent to eight point nine grams. The volume of the gummy bear started off at 1,296mm^3 and change 617.6 percent to a volume of 9,300 grams (Table 1). In the cup is sugar water, the gummy bear went from a mass of two point seven grams to seven point three grams with a 170.4 percent change. The volume of that gummy bear increased by 420 percent by going from 1,350mm^3 to 7,020mm^3 (Table 1).…

The purpose of the diaper lab was to see if the concentration of solutes in a solution has an effect on the amount of liquid absorbed by a diaper. The experiment tested how well the diaper would retain liquids with a different solute concentration. The hypothesis driving the experiment was if a hypertonic solution is added to a diaper, then the diaper will be less absorbent because the water will be drawn out of the sodium polyacrylate (powder) in the diaper due to osmosis. Sodium polyacrylate is in most diapers and is toxic, yet incredibly absorbent polymer. Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a cell membrane.…

In the experiment, I tested how soapy water would affect the amount of droplets the penny can hold. The results of my experiment show that the penny holds less droplets of soap water. When the soap is added to the water, the soap collides with water breaking down the tension. As a result, it harder for the droplets to hold together. To find whether my hypothesis was right, I did several of trials to figure out whether my hypothesis was correct.…
