Christian Mission is like the journey to the Promised Land. In Matthew 28, Jesus commanded the disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you”, and Jesus will “be with disciples always, to the very end of the age.”(Matthew 28:19) Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples for him from all nations. Because of the political, social, and cultural reasons, Christianity did not have great influence in China. In the recent several hundred years, especially in the 1800s and 1900s, a lot of missionaries from the States and Great Britain came to China to share the gospel with Chinese people by building hospitals, schools, and churches. The missionaries not only heal people, providing education for children, but also provide food and living places for a lot of people in need. My home church in Fuzhou, China was founded by Rev. Maclay and other missionaries from the Episcopal Methodist Church in 1856. My middle school and high school were both founded by the missionaries in the 1900s. There is a gym in my high school today which used to be a chapel (Nind-Lacy Memorial Chapel) built by William Henry and Emma Nind Lacy who were missionaries from Episcopal Methodist Church. The hospital in our district was also built by the missionaries. Even today in Yale Divinity School database, I can find the records of the Fuzhou missionary hospital between 1872 and 1918. Reinhard Bonnke’s sermon in Africa. It is about 15 years ago when I found a DVD which titled One Million People Convert to Christianity in Africa at home. I was interested in it because I could not even find one Christian in my class, how can one million people in Africa become Christian? I did not know English or any African languages at that time so I did not know what the pastor told the people. But I remembered how passionate and exciting they were. I was amazed by so many people standing there and listened to one man talking on the stage. Though I did not know Africa well, I felt that it was a blessed land. Since then, Africa was the No.1 place I wanted to visit. I was so inspired by the DVD that I wanted to become a volunteer in Africa. Though things do not work out as I planned, I will definitely visit Africa someday in my lifetime. Rev.
