That event was believed to have been caused by a giant asteroid. This time it is not an asteroid colliding with the Earth and wreaking havoc: it is us.” – Al Gore
Global warming is a serious problem in our world today. The Union of Concerned Scientists have stated that “An overwhelming majority of climate scientists have agreed that global warming is happening and human activity is the primary cause” (UCSUSA pg. 1). I chose this topic because I am concerned about global warming and how it will affect people today and into the future. I intend to describe some of the man-made causes of global warming such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrialization and the impact they have on the earth. I will also describe some of the solutions that are being implemented today to protect the earth for future generations.
Global warming is the gradual increase in temperature attributed to the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases reduce the rate at which the Earth’s surface loses heat to outer space. You can think of greenhouse gases as a blanket for infrared heat. Gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide do what the roof of a greenhouse does.
