There are many factories all over the world in most cities that emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This pollution goes into the air, water, and soil. Not only does it add to global warming, it damages human health by causing or worsening respiratory problems. In the short essay “The Environmental Issue From Hell,” the author Bill McKibben states that, “Typically when you're mounting a campaign you look for self interest, you scare people by saying what will happen to us if we don't do something. . . the canyon will disappear beneath a reservoir, we will choke to death on smog” (666). Smog is a big issue in a lot of cities, and it could potentially be very injuring to humans that inhale it and also the atmosphere and ozone layer. In addition, it negatively impacts ecosystems by damaging vegetation. This affects livestock and plants which both are needed greatly to help the ozone …show more content…
A lot of people don’t realize that electricity is a form of pollution because it is used to often and so lightly. Most of the electricity in the United States is generated from fossil fuels, such as coal, natural gas, and oil. These forms of producing electricity release harmful pollutants into the ozone layer. Burning coal causes smog, soot, acid rain, and toxic air emissions, which ultimately causes global warming. McKibben also states, “And most of us live lives so divorced from the natural world that we hardly notice the changes anyway” (666). The same way most people don’t realize they are polluting the air, a lot of people don't even notice the effects of global warming. Even though they are the ones causing it, they still are too busy in their own lives to notice the horrible effects such as storms and the drastic heat
