In Giotto's "Lamentation", color is used to create emotion by using soft colors. Color used are a light blue, pale pink, soft green, creme color, light orange, etc. I believe these colors create a calm emotion such as sadness or worriness. The shade of blue that was used takes over almost of half of the picture, I believe this shade of blue is gloomy. If any bright or even dark colors were added to the painting it could take away the importance of the painting. The use of color does have a symbolic significance because it is what brings emotion and highlights important parts of the picture. Another example in this particular picture is the redish-pink blanket the lady at Christ's feet has on her lap, this blanket stands out because it is one of the darkest colors in the painting, which could point out its significance. The portion of the image that is the focal point is Christ, everyone in the picture is looking down at Christ, even the angels in the sky. With there being multiple bodies in the picture, a viewer will always look to see what the persons in the picture are looking at and everyone in the picture is looking at Christ. Especiallyif a viewer were to look at the center of the painting, the man standing in the center is looking worried with his arms up looking down at Christ. The painter draws the reader's eye to Christ, I would assume it is to keep the same emotion that is presented by the color scheme. By focusing on Christ in this picture, the same emotions will remain, sadness or worry. The parts of the picture that are not focal points are especially the naked tree and the crowd of people in the center left of the painting. The artist use these to frame the focal point by placing a naked tree with nothing on it so it will not be focused on at all, as for the crowd of people, they are all looking at Christ so that will have the reader looking at Christ
