Is it acceptable if something deemed semi-dangerous in the United States is used in third world countries for health benefits? I’m speaking of GMO’s or genetically modified organisms are of great concern to many Americans but, food-poor countries are, at the same time being encouraged to use more and more GMO’s to create a more sustainable food supply. The subject of GMO’s is one of the most highly debated food and environmental topics in the world today. Many American scientists and consumers alike are still concerned despite GMO’s being diagnosed safe. Do GMO’s have a place in one of the most privileged countries in the world; where we have access to an abundance of fresh and healthy vegetables and meat or do the untested long term health risks outweigh the benefits of GMOs. What about using GMO’s in third world countries, where access to meats and nourishing vegetables are scarce? Despite many people’s skepticisms, GMOs do have a place in the world because the can add much need nutrients and accelerated growth to help feed the starving citizens in these third world countries.
So what is a GMO and how are they used? “A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal.
