Genetically Modified Organisms A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genome has been altered by genetic engineering such that its DNA and/or genes have been modified to a point where it is different than naturally occurring. GMO’s have the ability to help alleviate world hunger because they can provide more abundance of food. For example, in Asia a portion of land providing rice can feed 27 people, however, that similar land utilizing GMO’s in 2050 will be able to feed 43 people. This is how GMO’s can help solve world hunger. GMO’s are evident in multiple differing foods and products, even food you eat on a daily basis. For instance, GMO’s are found in corn, sugar, soybean oil, soy flour, and many more foods. Three
