General Motors organizational structure at the time of the recall was a for-profit with mutual-benefits (unions) within its structure and is considered a traditional Management pyramid. At the time of the recall General Motors was placing more emphasis on profit over safety as well as a general lack of communication up and down the chain of command. Several employees knew of the issues with the faulty ignition switches but failed to elevate their concerns high enough when they were dissatisfied with management’s responses. We know that prior to the recall they had gone through a major organizational structure re-haul after the 2009 bankruptcy “the company again got its position in market by restructuring and making change in the company”
