Of the four basic strategy types I believe that General Motors used the Prospectors strategy. General Motors had to take a step back and assess the situation after their bailout. They knew that with the opportunity that was given to them, they had to make some positive changes and make them quickly. One of the first things that they set out to accomplish was realizing their flaws. Having the knowledge that their vehicles were out of date in South America would force them to choose between updating them, or changing nothing and not seeing any positive financial results.
