Gender Stereotypes in the 21st Century Essay
I strongly believe that gender stereotypes still exist in the 21st century, but what is a stereotype? A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups, or types of individuals. There are several reasons as to why gender stereotypes exist today within our society inclusive of the media and literature, colour-coding of our gender and because of society’s expectations.
Firstly, gender stereotypes have been most influenced by the media which has become a powerful force in shaping the world’s perception. Finally gender stereotyping still exist in the 21st century because of society’s expectations. Have you ever been told that you had to look or be a certain way? Well if you have, these are just other examples of stereotypes. They might not be directly aimed at you but you feel the urge to appear that way either from peer pressure or influence from a celebrity you idolize. In today’s society many people aim to be a certain way, although they have already forgotten what is important. People are worrying too much about their physical appearance, and have forgotten what is truly important and beautiful. Many people judge others on their appearances rather than for whom they are, but once they get the chance to meet them they might dislike them compared to other people who could be easier to get along with. Do you judge people from their appearance? Have you ever considered just talking to them instead? What your peers and friends do doesn’t mean you have to.
In conclusion, media and literature, colour-coding of infants and children and society’s expectation are
