My school does have a GSA, but in my opinion, it is poorly advertised. I think I’ve seen two events in my years of school for the GSA. Not only is there no support, there is little to no information available for these students. Health class for as long as I remember has only talked about how to keep safe during heterosexual intercourse. There are students in that class who have no need for this information. There are students in that class who will explore their sexualities as they get older and will be at a high risk for STI’s. There are students in that class who will begin to feel uncomfortable, and alone (parallelism). However, gay students are not the only ones who need information, trans youth are also being put in danger with the lack of education they are getting. There is no place for trans students to go to for information on hormones.Transgender boys will be binding down their breasts with anything they can get their hands on, damaging their blood circulation and making it hard for them to breathe. Parents are saying that these kids are too young to learn about such things, but they have no idea the danger they are putting their kids in if they are not educated. This is just in Ontario! Compare it to the rest of Canada, it is only a small fraction of youth being properly educated. If students are not taught that there are other sexualities besides heterosexual, or that they do not have to identify with the gender they were born with, they will grow up thinking that something is inherently wrong with them. Is that really what you want? To teach kids how to hate themselves? (rhetorical
