There are many sociological issues in today’s society such as gender equity and gender relations, race or ethnic relations, coach-athlete relations, and etc. These sociological issues in sports have an impact especially in school. In the early times, there was no such thing as gender equity and sports were played only by the men, and the women were to sit and watch on the sidelines. Gender discrimination in the athletics has long been a controversial issue. This was a exemplifying the sexism of people in which women were not permitted to do something that men can do. It wasn’t until the nineteenth century that women gained “rights,” which gave them some of the rights that the men have. In addition, because of Title IX, women today receive equal opportunity as men. Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" ( Title, 2014).
