Marx’s Conflict Theory: Marx's Conflict hypothesis is essentially about the rich (the bourgeoisie) and the persecuted white collar class (the low class) and concentrates on how they cause struggle between each other.

Marx’s conflict theory is shown in the movie multiple times through various examples. The main Villain in the movie is known as Bill “the butcher” Cutting, who despises Irish and other immigrants, as he believes they are invading “his” land. In the movie Gangs of NewYork, Bill the butcher Cutting is very wealthy as he is the leader of the most powerful gang in the glorious Five Points, which are located in the lower half of Manhattan. Marx’s Conflict Theory can be seen in the relationship between Cutting, who acts as the bourgeoisie and the immigrants and families in the area, who can be thought of as the oppressed middle class. It can be seen that due to Cutting being wealthy and the immigrants, poor, the difference in class is a main factor in creating conflict between the two groups. Bill was forceful to migrants as indicated when he tossed different articles towards them when they were getting off the ship at the harbor. Likewise, Cutting debilitates foreigners frequently as appeared in the quote "You see this knife? I'm gonna teach you to speak English with this f***ing knife" this quote indicates how Cutting was forceful to the person since he was diverse. Also it displayed the aggressiveness Bill had towards immigrants. In the time Abraham Lincoln passed a act which expressed that every single dark slave were to be liberated. This maddened Bill and his group and whatever remains of the white population resulted in a mass murder over Manhattan
