Science, chemical and big name companies had done hazardous experiments with the consumers food without the world’s communities approval and it still continues today. Labeling the genetically modified organisms was also known as “Proposition 37.” Genetically modified organisms had contaminated the food supply. “A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced in the genes of an unrelated plant or animal” (Seeds of Deception). The results had no health benefits, only financial benefits to the companies that produce them. Ever since the Food and Drug Administration got started in 1994, they had rejected the labeling of the genetically modified organism. “New regulations propose strict guidelines for voluntary labeling of non-GMO productsIn mid-January, the US Food and Drug Administration announced new regulations requiring biotechnology companies to consult with the FDA at least 120 days before marketing GM foods” (FDA's New Regulations Won't Allow Non-GMO, GMO-free Label). Before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration made this law, consultations were voluntary. “While biotechnology and food industry representatives praised the new regulations, consumers and environmental groups criticized them, saying they didn’t go far enough, particularly in the terms of labeling GM foods. The FDA rejected consumers demands for labeling” (FDA's New Regulations Won't Allow Non-GMO, GMO-free Label). Monsanto made Roundup, which kills weeds. Monsanto also made plants that cannot be killed by Roundup. This allowed farmers to buy and plant Monsanto’s seeds, which were genetically modified, then spray them with Monsanto’s herbicide to kill unwanted weeds. The problem was that the unwanted weeds became resistant to the herbicide, so farmers needed a different and stronger herbicide from the chemical companies. Then the unwanted weeds become immune to the new herbicide then they need something stronger, and this continued. Recently the U.S. Department of Agriculture, also known as USDA, approved to let the farmers use 2, 4-D Amine Weed Killer on their crops. Amine Weed Killer 2, 4-D was dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, which was one of the main ingredients in Agent Orange.
