The theme of friendship is explored in this novel because even though Lennie isn't the brightest, George stays with him and he does not leave him. He does not want to leave him because they were born in the same town and they were always together and they became used to always working together so if they worked alone it would feel odd for the both of them. George can sometimes be mean towards Lennie but Lennie does not let him bother him. After George says some bad things to Lennie in the beginning of the book, Lennie still forgives him. “ If it was here you could have some.” “But I wouldn’t eat none George. I ‘d leave it all for you. You could cover your beans with it and I wouldn’t touch none of it.” (Page 13) After Lennie said that George felt bad for what he said and he apologized. “No-look! I was jus’ fooln’, Lennie. ‘Cause I want you to stay with me.” (Page 14) True friends always apologize and forgive each other like George and Lennie did.
Friendship is necessary to human survival.” This is true for George and Lennie because they are very close friends

Friends make us feel less lonely and we also feel loved. We also share all our secrets so we feel comfortable being around them and knowing we have someone to trust. So when you lose a best friend it is like losing your comfort zone and you might feel more insecure. We do not only need friends but we also need to be friends to other people because other people need friends as well. I know that I trust all of my friends and they trust me. We share secrets and we can talk all day and all night about whatever pops into our heads. You also do not have to have a lot of friends to be happy you just need one best friend. This is kind of like George and Lennie because they were best friends almost since they were born and they never leave each others’
