How Is George A Good Friend

In the novella, Of Mice and Men I believe that George was a good friend to Lennie. Friendship is when you are by someone's side, through thick and thin. George and Lennie were good examples of friendship because they were always by each others side, even though they may not have gotten along at times. Unfortunately, Lennie isn't so bright, so George has taken on the role of not only being his companion but his caretaker as well. In the novella George and Lennie have gotten into trouble a number of times, but this one time may or may not have depicted whether he was a good friend or not. After reading this novella I still believe George was a good friend because he did it for the obvious reason to not hurt Lennie. In the book George shows his friendship when he always tried to look out for Lennie's well being whether he liked it or not. For example, when George took the dead mouse away from Lennie, he only did that because he didn't want Lennie to get sick from the diseases the mouse could have carried diseases (Steinbeck Page 6). He also convinced Lennie that George was a hard worker so he could get the job. You may also be thinking that George wasn't a good friend because he treated Lennie cruelly by calling him names. George also did sacrifice his time to take care of Lennie and he always tried to make Lennie feel by telling him his favorite story about the farm. George killing Lennie must have made you think that George was definitely a bad friend but that's not quite right. First off, George killing Lennie was a favor for Lennie because if he hadn't then Curley and his gang would have tortured him. Yes they did have a chance to run away, but even if they did run away again Lennie would have gotten into so much trouble that he would have probably ended up dead
