The menu we designed was prepared for Family 3 that consists of a 48 year-old male ‘Dad’, a 45 year-old female ‘Mum’, a 8 year-old girl and a 85 year-old ‘Grandmother’. The daily energy required for the whole family is 42101kJ. From the menu we designed, the total energy can provide from the food for the family on the first day is 42104.36 kJ, the second day is 42103.93 kJ and the third day is 42101.53 kJ, which is adequate for the whole family.

According to NZ Food and Nutrition Guideline statements, individuals need to eat well by including a variety of nutritious foods from each of the four major food groups each day. Individuals need to eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, plenty of breads and cereals, preferably wholegrain and have milk and milk products in the diet, preferably reduced or low-fat options. Include lean meat, poultry, seafood, eggs or alternatives (Ministry of Health NZ,. 2012). In our menu, there are plenty of vegetables and fruit as the meals contain mostly vegetables such as broccoli, potatoes, onions, green beans, cucumber et cetera. Most of the mornings, sometimes also lunch, both ‘Mum’ and ‘Dad’ consume both mixed grain bread and natural muesli as they need more energy. While ‘Grandmother’ and the child do not need that much energy, they usually only need either one in a meal. Every member will consume at least one egg per day.
