Toronto, like many other cities in the world, has a very fast paced environment. Commuters in the downtown core are always on the go and foot traffic seems to be growing every year. In today’s world, people don’t have much time in their day to stop into a restaurant for a delicious prepared meal. For some time now food trucks have been the latest rave in Toronto. The industry provides gourmet food for busy people who cannot afford to wait for a table in a restaurant. However, city by-laws, that must be abided, have caused a lot of controversy between vendors, restaurant owners and the government. Despite the great opportunity food trucks provide to both the customer and the entrepreneur, they seem to leave a lot of people hungrier for money. City council has made it very hard for food trucks to run successful businesses in the busiest areas of Toronto but with the help of popular demand and politicians like Mayor John Tory, the city is making progress to feed its people. …show more content…
The industry provides an amazing opportunity for entrepreneurs to create a business that’s very personal to its customer. The needs of a busy city environment are fulfilled with a mobile restaurant that can cook and serve gourmet food within minutes of ordering, and vendors can sell their products, virtually anywhere, as long as they follow city by-laws. For how promising and exciting this business seems to be, in Toronto there is much controversy between vendors, restaurant owners and the city itself. Vendors are finding it very hard to keep a profit with all the fees they have to pay in order to keep their trucks up and running.
