First, Beatty tells Guy he will be forced to go to jail after burning his life’s work right after Mildred climbs in a taxi and drives away. Beatty’s villainous ways are revealed because he shows his belief in destroying Guy’s life even farther than he already has done. For example, Beatty forces guy to light his own house on fire with a flamethrower instead of using kerosene. Beatty forcing Guy to take his house apart piece by piece and making Guy watch everything he worked for fall away in minutes exemplifies Beatty’s love of pain. Finally, Beatty forces Guy to burn his entire book collection with the flamethrower right before Guy aims the flamethrower at Beatty. Guy worked his whole life to collect those books and the books were a part of who he was, and when he was forced to burn them Beatty destroyed part of Guy’s soul. Overall Beatty truly exemplifies his evil ways by compelling Guy to destroy his entire life. Throughout Beatty’s life in the novel his character is used for the act of destruction and violence to make him a villain. He destroys others properties and murders without guilt. He also forces Guy to destroy his own life and believes it’s deserved. Overall Beatty is the villain because of his love for destroying others
