Character Analysis Of Guy Montag In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury

In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the main character, Guy Montag, undergoes a character transformation throughout the novel. His whole life and understanding of everything thing goes under a transformation throughout the novel. His curiosity and questioning of society and the normal, how people see him, and involvement from burning to saving books all change.
One way Montag changes is how he is seen through the eyes of the public. He is a highly respected firefighter. He was a stereotypical third generation firefighter. Beatty knew Montag had books because some of Mildred’s friends reported him. Since firefighters can have them for up to 24 hours then must turn them in, Beatty gave Montag some time to report himself. They kept note of Montag a bit more carefully after that and had the mechanical hounds go to his house since he didn’t turn them in himself. He is forced to burn the books himself. With all of that happening, all the respect he had is gone and would have had to go to jail if he didn’t kill Beatty. Montag became one of the most wanted men there involving one the most intensive searches after being a person of authority. Montag took pride in his work. The books start out saying “It was a pleasure to burn.” In the beginning, Montag has been secretly and illegally taking books and doing nothing with them, just storing them in his house. Later he actually brings them out to read and ends up basically fighting for them resulting in him killing Beatty. He ends up reading them and wants to burning books to stop. While Montag is on the run, he meets up with people who are also trying to preserve the knowledge of books. The way they do it is by reading it, memorizing, and then burning so they will not be caught. Montag adapts this way with
