History
Facebook is a well-known social media platform that has worked its way into our daily lives as a source of keeping in contact with our friends, family, co-workers, and even enemies. Although it is important to point out, Facebook has not always been what it is today. The company started in 2004 and was merely a questionable social platform which Niels Brügger (2015) described as “unknown territory.” (1. Introduction). Eventually people started to switch from MySpace to Facebook as their social media source. From to 2004 to 2013 Facebook has undergone and continues to undergo transformations to keep up with the ever changing ways of technology. What started at Harvard University has taken on the world connecting people from all countries. The staff grew from Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Andrew McCollum and Christ Hughes to roughly 14,500 in June 2016 (newsroom.fb.com, 2016). In regards to its employees, Facebook has created a unique culture called “hacker culture.” (Our Culture) This type of environment fosters creativity and problem solving while striving for quick development and improvement. They have the phrase “this journey is 1% finished” (Our Culture) as a reminder of the beginning of the mission to make the world more open and connected (newsroom.fb.com, 2016)
Performance
The financials for the past three years of Facebook have shown nothing but improvement. Looking back to 2013, Facebook was making 7,872,000,000 dollars in total…
