Ethics. Ethics are not tied to feelings, because feelings deviate from ethical behavior. Ethical behavior is not only tied to religion because it would only apply to religious people. Nor is it tied to laws or societal norms because ethical behavior is not what society accepts to be right or what the laws say is right because both are connected to one’s feelings (Fieser, J.). Simply put, what one believes to be the right thing. However, what seems to be the “right thing” to one person can seem to be the complete opposite to another and neither of the two should have to conform to another’s’ standards. Ethical behavior ultimately comes down to a universal set of rights and wrongs. It is not how one believes it should be done or how it comes to be. Ethics is also considered to be the study and development of one’s own ethical behavior and standards. Ethical behavior is deciding whether an action or inaction of your own behavior is right or wrong. There are three types of ethical behavior: metaethics, normative ethics and applied ethics (Fieser, J.).
Metaethics is defined as the investigation of where one’s ethical beliefs come from and what they mean. Metaethics is a branch of analytic philosophy that explores the status, foundations, and scope of moral values, properties, and words, focusing on what morality itself is. Usually these questions are focused more toward universal truths, God’s will, where reason comes into play in ethical dilemmas, and lastly what ethical terms…
