Stigmatization of overweight students can jeopardize health, trigger health disparities and hinder effective obesity intervention efforts. It can also have consequences such seclusion, low self-esteem, social exclusion, bullying, and possibly suicide. It is my duty as a public health professional to avoid stigmatization in the overweight student population. First and foremost, I must follow the Golden Rule: I will always treat people as I want to be treated. Simply put, I will be courteous and considerate of others feelings. As a public health professional, it is important to have a positive impact on everyone with whom I came in contact with, to be humble and respectful. I vow to value basic human dignity and rights in others. My actions must respect every human being as themselves. I will vow to be honest and sincere in everything I do. I will care about others, always willing to help those in need, and never ridicule others. I will do my best to avoid stigmatizing overweight/obese children. And most importantly, I will stand up for what is right and moral; I will never allow failure to prevent me from trying to make a difference in public health.
