In Mexico’s past, a mother was the heart of the family. She cleaned, cooked and took care of the children around the clock. Females in Mexico were expected to stay at home and were not allowed to go to school because the same responsibilities of the mother were passed down to the daughters and it was their job to learn how to be a woman. Today’s women in Mexico are included into the workforce more but are still thought of as mothers first. Women in America have a similar background to this, but their current situation is different because of the feminist movement. Feminism in America was started in 1848 with the Seneca Falls Convention in New York. This was the first gathering devoted to women’s rights and started the rise of women in more powerful positions than just housewives. A lot of American women are now moving up the scale and are pursuing jobs they want, even if it's the job of a stay-at-home-mom because they have the freedom to choose. Religion is another large part of the people of Mexico’s lives because of their culture. The Catholic faith first came to Mexico when the Spaniards arrived. Mexicans, especially the women, believe religion should be an important part of their lives and participation in religious rites is a must.
