The topic that is critically acclaimed the most is the “food-miles” remarks. A Food-Mile is the amount of mileage taken for the food to get to the consumer from the producer. Scientists believe that the locavore diet is unnecessary, and can actually be equally as harmful as being apart of the trending traditional diet. “Local production adds up to a lot more food-related carbon emissions than the 5 percent accounted for by the transportation of food. Greenhouse tomatoes grown in the United Kingdom, for example, have been shown to produce three times the greenhouse gas emissions as tomatoes imported from Spain” (Shizumu, 2012).
