What is feminism? Well first off it is commonly thought as the belief that women are better than men. The Merriam webster dictionary states defines feminism as “belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities”. During the modern day, feminism holds a socially constructed definition which has a negative connotation. Feminism is still necessary because to this day we still see gender discrimination throughout the lives of everyone due to how feminism has been socially constructed and developed over time into our society. For example in class we talked about what it means to be a feminist in our eyes and asked ourselves if it was was still needed. We came to the conclusion that it was definitely still necessary. Everyday we all do gender. For example when going out to dinner I saw a man pay for his dates meal and I heard females talking about what they should wear later in the night. Gender is so rooted into our society that any little disruption is obvious and brings attention to how women and men fit into their gender roles. For example if you were to see a man talking about what he wanted to wear out that night people might stop and listen and think to themselves is he gay? Why does he care what he is going to wear out later tonight he is a guy, he should not care. If you were to see a women not wear any makeup when going out men might be deterred from her because maybe she does not look as pretty and as a girl. Gender inequality, if it is the social denominations of men and the decline of women socially, is not due to the hormones or genetic predisposition. It is due to and kept by “identifiable social processes and built into the general social structure and individual identities deliberately and purposely.” (3) If feminism was necessary then none of these thought would cross people 's minds because everyone would think of each other as
