All around the world people have different thoughts and opinions on Australia, through what these people think Australia get these stereotypes that change Australia’s identity. Australia is a county that Is considered as multicultural, diverse and unique. Through Australian history there has emerged a ‘typical Australian” that makes them ‘acceptable’ but this isn’t always the case as over time the ‘typical Australian’ definition has changed. As Australians, we recognize cultural identity and symbols that define us as Australians but defining Australians has its effects. For example, aboriginals who are a part of Australian culture have their own stereotypes that can come off as racist and unacceptable, they are hurtful and have serious effects on mental and physical health. The media has an impact on this especially on aboriginals by making them always seem like ‘bad people’ of Australia, you always see on ads that they are normally the ones smoking, statistics state that 50% of Aboriginal people smoke but there’s the other half that is non-indigenous.
