Disappointment may be denied by stoics, but it exists nonetheless when specific expectations or ideals are not met. For instance, the belief that every emotional pain experienced can be justified in ways that are unknown to humans at the present time. Hope may diminish and will reduce their perseverance if there is no end reward in mind. Viktor Frankl's existentialist position, stoicism can be seen as an escape from reality as well as a representation of "fool's paradise." This means that while internal chaos exists within the individual, they present the perfect veneer to the outside world. By believing in this perfect universe, stoics are not addressing the existing issues and go on with their lives as if nothing is amiss. Beneath the surface, however, bottled up emotions continue to exist without acknowledgement. This does not diminish their hidden presence. The fool's paradise theory suggests that while things may be cracking beneath the surface, outsiders perceive the individual as being perfectly intact. Existentialists such as Dr. Viktor Frankl do not perceive the universe as preordained or perfectly designed. In fact, they disregard the concept of destiny and suggest it is our mission to find meaning and purpose in life.
