The research that I had found was very intriguing and fascinating on how to accommodate ELLs who have learning disabilities. Even though ELLs with disabilities may always achieve depressed scores in particular domains of language as a result of their specific disability, they must be given the opportunity to demonstrate their level of proficiency in English and be included in the annual state ELP assessment in all domains.     An ELL student is described as a linguistically and culturally diverse student who is learning the English language in addition to his or her native language. In my current fieldwork experience and to the best of my knowledge, there are no ELLs students attending any of the classes that I currently observe.     The LD diagnosis is actually being used as an excuse for school officials to adopt a very broad and hard to prove medical theory of what constitutes learning disabilities, a security blanket for parents so that their children “tested” so as to have extra support on achievement tests as well as academics, it actually ignores other factors in that may impede a child’s ability to learn, and may in fact discriminate against said students.
