In nature reserves across Africa there are over 160 projects being funded to support eco-rangers in the reserves, find trafficker pathways to other countries, and research in how to stop the black market ivory trade. While the fund has been successful it could improve in various aspects. The Elephant Crisis Fund could focus on monetary incentives for the local people to stop poaching and receive the benefits of eco-tourism to gain support of their conservation techniques. The fund should also focus on the love aspect of conservation and work with the indigenous people to improve their lives and make it easier to live side-by-side with elephants as they can be destructive to crops and resources. Lastly, to gain support for their cause the Elephant Crisis Fund has used celebrity endorsements which continue the “Othering” of indigenous people and romanticizing Africa.
