183). Included in the hands-on research, the writer also uses any many tables to confirm his data. From school funding from year to year and on a three-year period, Koval breaks down the statistical profiles of each city school he visited. What I take away from this book is exactly how he advocated for those who don’t have a voice.…
In the small town of Magnolia, Texas there are many different choices on where you can send your teen to high school. Two of those choices being iSchool High, a non traditional semi public charter school, and Magnolia West, a traditional public high school. The structure of education and academic differences between iSchool High and Magnolia West are profoundly diverse. Comparing the two facilities raises some intriguing questions. By sending your teen to Magnolia West, could it be holding them back academically?…
What are they doing to make improvements in staff, policies, procedures and the overall culture of one’s school? The results above indicate that today, few schools have a vigorous approach to assessing their current HR competences and recognizing skill gaps. My opinion is that there are many underlying factors why schools fail, regardless of whether the schools are located in urban, rural, or suburban communities. One of the main reason is weak leadership, starting with HR, then the principal who fails to keep the school focused on teaching and learning, and teachers’ whose skill levels are…
David Sirota presents several different arguments in this article, but there is one overlying truth that can be supported by sub-arguments. I will explore and explain the author’s opinions and arguments and analyze the extent to which the argument is presented. Following the outline of our first graded homework, the overall claim and premises found can be identified as follows: Claim: Public school “reformers” fail to recognize and solve the real issue affecting schools- poverty. P1: “Reformers” believe that American schools should be at the top of every international list and produce top-of-the-line educators and students P1a: They believe that testing is the best way to show growth and strength, and that all tests should produce results…
The public school system removes individuality from the equation and expects everyone to fit into the parameters established by the federal government. Tomlinson also suggests, “Students flourish when they find a sort of school family—a group that accepts, nurtures, and needs them.” She feels the best way to accomplish this task is to, “. . . ask ourselves what we can do to model, commend, and necessitate mutual…
Education has been around for years, centuries, and decades not only in the United States, but also in the state of Texas. Yet, change in education in general is very hard achieve and not that easy to come about. In the past and the present years, Texas has taken multiple positive strides in the right direction. Yet, one of the biggest issue or policy dividends in Texas and the United States is educational reform. Education reform is just a way of saying change in education.…
Public School Funding Throughout the years, many states in America such as Arizona have experienced a decrease in public school funding due to a decline in taxes and a lack of financial resources. This has created many issues with the quality of a public school education. The current lack of financial support has decreased the ability to provide the necessary resources for our schools. This is the biggest obstacle for public schools in Arizona and many states across the nation.…
Background This case study involves a shooting that took place at E. O. Green Junior High School in Oxford, California. The school that is discussed in this case study is in considered to be in a urban city where a lot of gang violence takes place. In 1994, E.O. The achievement gap has been a continuous issue for some time now, meaning every student isn’t receiving the same kind of education as one another. Many parents have tried hard to get their child the best quality of education money can but them, but it is not always guaranteed. The “hidden curriculum”, quality of educators, and charter schools are the ones to blame. Many would assume that every school is alike and teach the same curriculum, but Jean Anyon has proved otherwise. In ‘Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work’, Anyon went to different socially ranking schools such as the “working class” school and even as high as “executive elite”.…
In an article titled “What’s Holding Back American Teenagers?” by author Laurence Steinberg, the claim is made that, “Our high schools are a disaster.” Steinberg begins by mentioning education policies which had recently come to the attention of Obama during his term as president. This involved two issues, the first being early-childhood education and the second being college accessibility; however, Steinberg’s article preferred to focus on a third issue: American high schools. Throughout the article, he continually reflected on research from organizations such as OECD, The National Assessment of Educational Progress, and The National Center for Education Statistics.…
Over the past several decades, a disparity in the achievement of low-income schools and high-income schools has slowly hurt the United States. As someone who experienced life near a neighborhood that featured low-income schools, their situation becomes more understandable. The economically disadvantaged students in low-income schools are frequent victims of an issue that has plagued the United States for many years. In these schools, they are presented with many disadvantages that hurt their futures and wastes taxpayer money.…

High schools with 400 to 900 students tend to have more student academic success than the larger schools that house over 900 students (Irmsher, 1997). Also High schools with 400 to 900 students have lower dropout rates and a higher participation rate in extracurricular activities (Irmsher, 1997; Gewertz, 2001). Sampson and Marshall (2008) found the success of the small schools in their study was due to the strong relationships between the school board, community members, teachers, students, and administrators. At IHS we will set up a plan to nurture and develop the same type of high quality relationships that smaller rural schools follow. At IHS we will require parental and community involvement.…
Over the course of my seven years teaching high school social studies, I have had the opportunity to learn about the evolving roles and responsibilities of a school administrator from three amazing principals. Henry Kluttz, Kelly Withers, and Angelo DelliSanti have been excellent models for anyone aspiring to be an administrator. Having recently started my own journey towards this leadership role, my knowledge of what makes a great principal has grown exponentially. Having the opportunity to interview a pair of veteran elementary school principals through this assignment has been an eye-opening experience. Having spent the entirety of my teaching career at the high school level has left me with a limited understanding of how an elementary school functions.…
