To be quite honest, the Department of Education might look great on paper but our teachers and students are providing a completely different illustration. The $50 million increase in funding appears to have provided little to no help whatsoever in 2015. Amazingly, 2016 has started off even worse as many of the smaller school districts have gone to four day school weeks as opposed to five, some have resorted to cutting a week off of the end of the school year as a last ditch effort to save money. Our children’s education should be a top priority and instead it’s continuously placed on the backburner and I simply cannot fathom that concept because it just doesn’t make any sense. The area that has had to compromise the most would probably be the Department of Education. It’s fairly obvious that $50 million is not sufficient enough to fund the number of school districts in Oklahoma. The area that is being disproportionately funded would be the amount of money allotted to repair the Capitol building. I understand that the project is set to be completed throughout a 12 year period, I still find it completely unbelievable that our taxpayer dollars are going to be funding an over $7,000,000.00 project especially when we have so many other state departments that could use some, if not all of that money, one of which being the Department of Education.
