For most people emotions tend to dictate the direction in which their decision is made. They do it to amuse their friends not knowing it will make them look like fools or make them have regrets later on in the future. In the online article “5 Reasons Teenagers Act the Way They Do” by Kathy Benjamin it reveals that “All teenagers take stupid risks that they one day look back on and wonder what the heck they were thinking. But studies have found it is not because teens aren’t thinking about the risks involved—it’s because they think about them longer than adults”(1). Adolescent sexual activity and little knowledge on how to protect themselves against STI/STD’s may be answered through more advanced sex education classes in school. Comprehensive knowledge to these subjects will be provided in the classroom including: birth controls, the use of condoms to prevent STI/STD’s, sexual behavior, meanwhile also encouraging abstinence and delayed sexual activity. Few parents disagree with school’s providing the information to their children; although, the parents who do contradict may not be willing to provide information about this subject and the knowledge the adolescents need to know. Studies have outlined that children who have had sex by the age of thirteen are at higher chances of having multiple partners and thus they are capable of engaging in frequent sexual encounters. Further, this group of individuals after watching pornographic content, they would want to try some of the behaviors they saw which in essence increases the chances of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. When children are exposed to sexually explicit content earlier in life, these tend to have profound impacts on the child’s behaviors, attitudes and values towards relationships and sex itself (Benedek and Catherine 236). It is quite unfortunate that the media does not portray what the parents would want for their children. As such, parents should ensure that they monitor what their children play, watch or listen to and take every single teachable moment to discuss the inappropriate behaviors or contents therein.…
