Every hospital has been receiving information on how to spot Ebola, how to deal with it safely, and how to treat it if at all possible (Steven). Symptoms of Ebola are very important for a doctor to know in case someone who has contracted the virus does come in they need to be able to take care of them safely without anybody else catching the disease. The Dallas hospital was a great example of this. They released a patient, Thomas Duncan, who had come in experiencing a fever, abdominal pain, and a headache. Thomas Duncan had just recently got back from his trip from Africa but the hospital wasn’t aware of the concern related to that. They released him due to only mild conditions and he was admitted two days later into the isolation unit. By then they say that he may have come in contact with over 50 people. Just imagine if a child were to get it and go to school. There would be a lot of kids that could get it and it would be a tragedy. The hospitals use single patient isolation. They isolate the patient is a room by themselves so that there is no chance of any human contact at all. They try to avoid or at least restrict the entry of visitors. The hospitals also need to keep the room or wherever they are as clean as possible to avoid any contact with infection as much as possible. Even the waste from the patient is treated and disposed with extreme …show more content…
is sitting on promising Ebola vaccines. Several vaccines and drugs are on the edge of becoming useful (Schlanger). Felderma, a scientist, says that he came up with a new vaccine for Zaire. Other virus’ are starting to come and its irritating the scientist because every time they get close to a cure for a disease a new disease pops up. Not to mention the costs of coming up with these drugs and vaccines. It’s super expensive to be doing any research at all on Ebola. Scientists say if Ebola were even to appear in the U.S. it would stop in its tracks. With the precautions that the United States takes and with the Ebola virus being airborne there is a very unlikely cause that Ebola would be spread in the U.S. However we are on the edge of many cures. The vaccine Felderman came up with cured four out of eight animals contracted with Ebola. Usually the kill rate is ninety percent of them. The problem is, that new outbreaks keep popping up that take all new cures and vaccines. The reason we aren’t finding vaccines and cures as fast is because the lack of funding. There is also a lack of interest in even trying to find a cure in the pharmaceutical companies. Ebola was thought to be a prime candidate for future attack but the only thing stopping that was that Ebola can only be transmitted via bodily fluids. What happens when a person contracts Ebola is that the blood loses its ability to clot which could lead to bleeding out of all orifices. When that happens it leads
