Approximately 310,000 to 580,000 deaths occur each year due to the combination of a poor diet and lack of physical activity (Therien). The popular phrase “you are what you eat” has countless interpretations. Some people may argue for and against that phrase. However, I absolutely agree with that phrase. If someone eats unhealthy for an extended period of time, then they are certainly going to be unhealthy. To live longer, it is essential for the human body to receive a proper diet. Various studies indicate that people who follow a healthy lifestyle have a greater life expectancy. In today’s generation, it has become so much easier to grab fast food on the go; however, we do not stop to think about the consequences of eating fast food. There are various long-term effects of eating unhealthy, such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. The concept of “you are what you eat” is true because unhealthy eating habits have the potential to develop various physical, psychological, and biological risks.
Consuming an unhealthy diet can negatively affect physical health. Every year during spring and summer, I focus on eating healthy and working out. I try to limit the amount of junk food I eat. I look at the serving size of what I am eating and I eat in proportions. I count my calorie intake and I drink at least eight ounces of water, eight times a day, because it helps me stay full and it’s also good for my skin. I normally work out five days a week.
