What would happen if we didn’t According to Emily Yoffe, a 94 year old man was driving with his wife when he failed to see a stop sign and plowed through the intersection hitting a couple in another car. The 94 year old man and his wife both died in the hospital and also put the couple in the other car also in the hospital where the wife never fully recovered and is still suffering from his actions.
Yoffe also says that a man who suffers from parkinson's disease and frequently freezes behind the wheel, his children wanted his physician to tell the state's motor vehicle department but the doctor told them that he was not allowed because he was not required to do so. Because they believe in “moral obligation”. This moral obligation could lead ot others getting harmed though.
How it would help

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

Just as well, I am fully aware that these actions must be followed through accordingly if we intend on making our streets a safer driving environment for everyone, even if it’s at the expense of a few. The purpose of developing these new set of laws is not intended to look down on or offend any social group, young or old, but to acknowledge the never-changing fact that as we age those things such as our vision, or quick decision making skills begin to deteriorate and are nowhere as crisp as they were in our younger days. In my opinion, if taking this annual performance test can save at least one life, then it was well worth…

It should be discussed with the drivers that it is their safety as well as other drivers. Elderly drivers should know that some of their medical conditions may be hazardous if they are choosing to drive. For example, Alzheimer’s can impair their memory and judgment and cause them to forget where they were going. Another example, diabetes can increase the risk of falling into a coma while driving. Granted that, not all elderly drivers do not have medical conditions that could cause concern about their driving abilities; they still should be retest since medical conditions have the ability to change quickly.…

I wonder if ageism plays a key in situations like these? Society views ‘older adults’ in such a negative light it is difficult to know if driving should be apart of their lives. After reading the New York Times article provided for us, it seems the general consensus in our society is that all older adults should succumb to ‘their physical frailty’. Elderly are more likely to be injured in an accident and more likely to die of that injury. My question is, if the aging population is forced to relinquish driving privileges at a certain age, how will they commute to where they need to go?…
