The benefits
What would happen if we didn’t According to Emily Yoffe, a 94 year old man was driving with his wife when he failed to see a stop sign and plowed through the intersection hitting a couple in another car. The 94 year old man and his wife both died in the hospital and also put the couple in the other car also in the hospital where the wife never fully recovered and is still suffering from his actions.
Yoffe also says that a man who suffers from parkinson's disease and frequently freezes behind the wheel, his children wanted his physician to tell the state's motor vehicle department but the doctor told them that he was not allowed because he was not required to do so. Because they believe in “moral obligation”. This moral obligation could lead ot others getting harmed though.
How it would help
The most significant improvement that would occur due to creating more restrictions on those over the age of 70, older be the lower fatality rate due to crashes According to Help Guide, they could save money on gas + no car no gas = extra money
Also they could improve their health, if they were to lose their licenses they have more opportunities to walk or ride

In 1984, Ronald Reagan signed the Uniform Drinking Age Act that required all states to adopt twenty-one as the legal drinking age within five years. Since then, the drinking age has been debated and questioned by many different groups all across the country. Many people have their own opinion on whether the age should be raised, lowered, or remain unchanged; but each group of supporters agree that the age minimum provides safety to citizens. While the current law has done this, there is still more that can be done. The age of twenty-one is not the ideal age for allowing alcohol consumption and it needs to be reevaluated.…

So, now you all know why mandatory biennial driving tests should be put in place for the elderly. You know how cognitive, visual, and motor impairments are the main cause of fatal crashes, how testing of those abilities have helped prevent crashes, and how important it is to test them because of the growing number of elder drivers. I would like you all to consider my bill because if it were put in place, it could lower the number of elders in fatal crashes from 17 percent to none.…

Should a person 65 or older be taken off the road or should they still have the ability to drive? We should not strip the elders of their licenses and restrict them from driving just because they reach a certain age, but I believe that we should construct a way to keep everyone safe on the road with a sooner renewal of the licenses within 2 years instead of 4 years and have the older population have an annual vision, hearing, and motion/ability test to ensure they still have the abilities to stay alert and keep everyone safe on the road. Vision plays a major role in the ability to drive. When driving, one always has to be alert and know what their surroundings are every second of the drive. For example, people need to be alert of the speed limit, unexpected vehicles, things approaching their windshields, etc.…

Just as well, I am fully aware that these actions must be followed through accordingly if we intend on making our streets a safer driving environment for everyone, even if it’s at the expense of a few. The purpose of developing these new set of laws is not intended to look down on or offend any social group, young or old, but to acknowledge the never-changing fact that as we age those things such as our vision, or quick decision making skills begin to deteriorate and are nowhere as crisp as they were in our younger days. In my opinion, if taking this annual performance test can save at least one life, then it was well worth…

I think some senior citizens should be permitted to drive, but with limitations, such as the amount of driving they can do, the hours in which they can drive, or the distance from home they can travel. These restrictions may be placed either by the law or their insurance provider which vary by state. Physical strength, mental acuity, and overall health can begin to deteriorate as a person ages and they may not even be aware it is happening. Although there are some voluntary measures a person can utilize to check their driving abilities, seniors driving in an unsafe manner is still a large problem. An aging person may have some issues admitting they are no longer fit to take the wheel.…
