In the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the entire Russian track and field team was suspended and at least 120 athletes at the Rio Olympics were previously suspended for doping, and 31 of these athletes won medals in Rio (Halchin & Rollins, 2016; Aisch &Lai, 2016). The Rio Olympic Games was hosted during August 5th to August 21th in 2016. Although the Olympics was a celebrating event for the people all over the world, doping issues still aroused widespread concerns. The aim of the paper is to explain the rules of anti-doping control, and give the examples of doping violations during the Rio Olympics. In addition, it presents the steps that the International Olympic Committee plans to take to deal with the doping issues.
What are the anti-doping rule violations (ADRV) and substances or methods prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency? People are concerned about doping, but most people do not know what kind of behavior and substances will lead to the ADRV. According to the report of Congressional Research Service, the author Halchin (2016) gives two type of anti-doping rule violations: one is analytical finding ADRA which means finding prohibited substances or its metabolites or its markers in the athlete’s sample; the other type is non-analytical ADRA which includes athletes or athletes support personnel trying to change test records and possessing or trafficking prohibited substances. Therefore, whether it is taking or possession of prohibited substances are considered the ACRA.…
