Sports has been a huge part of society since the very beginning. Mankind has been born with the desire to compete and to have dominance over another person. These are in fact clear in today’s society. There are all kinds of sports and many of these sports are played in a higher or professional level. These events give an individual a chance to be a winner and become the better one of the two, just like the olden days. That desire to dominate will lead men to do anything, no matter what it is, for victory. In fact, this is good in many cases because it displays perseverance and courage but there are also bad cases. Many additional rules and regulations have been brought up to minimize the number of athlete’s usage of these drugs to heighten their performance. For example, the Olympics represent this strategy all the way. If any Olympic athlete/competitor is tested positive or admits for the usage of steroids, they can have their medals won stripped from them or disqualified from all their competitions. There was a well-known instance where a sprinter, Ben Johnson, won a gold medal in the 100-meter dash but shortly after was denounced as the world’s fastest man. College and professional football in the U.S. also has an approach to these instances. Football players could be fined or even suspended from playing in games if tested positive. In a recent situation, a couple months ago there was three NFL, National Football League, players who were suspended from their last four games of the season because they tested positive to similar substances to steroids. These aren’t the only sport events that test and penalize athletes for the usage, many others test their athletes randomly or even before every game. These attempts aren’t enough because they mainly focus on who had used rather than the source of the substances. Athlete are not free from blame because they are the ones that make the final decision but there needs to be more effort to penalize the ones who are distributing these
