Knowledge on domestic violence is becoming more and more prevalent in the United States and around the worlds. Family violence, Teen dating violence and Inter partner violence is being talked about more and becoming known as abuse and not something that is just “ok” or just how a person is or their beliefs. There are many different types of domestic violence that affect people today. According to, domestic violence is a way for one partner to control the other partner. This can be sexual, physical, emotional, economic, psychological abuse, This includes any actions that intimidate, manipulates, humiliates, isolates, frightens, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injury or wound someone. This definition and explanation for what domestic violence is, gives us a better understanding of what acts and intentions are a part of domestic violence and that it is not just a physical abuse thing.
Domestic violence used to be acceptable and called “wife beating” which was accepted and ok by authorities and at times deemed necessary based on the actions of women. Bradley (2007) stated “Domestic Violence laws can be traced back to 753 B.C., where, during the reign of Romulus in Rome, wife beating was accepted and condoned under the Laws of Chastisement. These laws permitted the husband to beat his wife with a rod or switch.
