How does Facebook makes us dumber? I don’t think this article supports the title. The Author goes on to talking about how misinformation will spread so quickly on social media, and why don’t people look for the truth. I agree with that but I don’t think it makes us dumber. The author believes that a lot of people will post things that they agree on even if they have not fact checked them. They will stay away from things that they don’t believe in. Some of things may not even be true they just post them. Someone else will see the post and like it or share it without fact checking the post first. You might have not done any research on the topic you just didn’t have anything else to post and it sounds true so you post it. That can be very misleading but when it comes to Facebook it’s all about the most attention. It’s really a big popularity contest if you ask me. People will post anything on Facebook just for likes. For instance a person can tell a story that is truth on facebook. Someone can make a “Meme” about it. A meme is a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc, that is copied (often with slight variation) and spread rapidly by Internet users. The meme will spread faster than the truth. People will forget all about the truth story and share the false one. It’s not that they are dumb but people loves entertainment. Even if it at another person expense. Spreading misleading information about someone without fact checking can also leads to cyber bulling also. Cyberbullying comes from a lot of misleading information that they spread around. Even if some of the information is true people will twist and turn the truth just to hurt someone. People will add their opinion and comment with no regards for someone else’s feeling.
