Language is diverse in a workplace, although critics argue that language is the same in a workplace because they have several similarities within it. But throughout these similarities, there are many differences lay, and I know this because I have experienced various language type in two different workforces. Belonging to Pizza Hut and Walmart workforces has caused me to be cautious when speaking in different places, since workplace language varies based on audience, customer satisfaction, relationships, and environment. When working at Pizza Hut I am more familiar with the customers and Walmart I am less familiar with the customer. Being a part of the Pizza Hut community, I am able to engage and get a better understanding of who the customers truly are because I have more time on hands that allows me to hold a deep conversation with the customer, which allows me to form a close relationship with them. The ratio in size of Pizza Hut to Walmart has a huge impact on the formation of relationships. When I am working at Pizza I see a lot of the same faces and I began to remember their names which then allows me to hold deep conversation with them. When taking orders the customer has to give their name as well as phone number, giving me a huge advantage over Walmart. Usually I would greet a customer “Good Afternoon, Mr. Rocker, it is nice to see you again. Would you like the personal pan supreme again or do you want to try something new this time?” Walmart on the other hand is quite different, being a part of the Walmart community the customer’s name is not necessary, so I am not able to have history on what the customers has purchased in their previous visits. This makes Walmart more on the unknown side of things, I am not able to have deep full conversations with the customer. Most of the time when I speak I say “Hello, did you find everything you were looking for today? . . . great have a wonderful day.” I have realized that my communication may come off as rude and harsh, so when I do speak I try to speak quickly but also in a since tone, but it isn’t an easy task. My communication in this work place is not detailed at all, and since it is so fast running I am actually not able to fully engage in a conversation because I have twenty more customers behind that person.
