Within a white collar work place, the language used would be of a formal or semi-formal manner and include technical jargon between workers and workers and management. When workers communicate between them selves this may be done semi formal or even colloquially depending on the context of the conversation. If discussing out of work events with friends within the work place this would be a colloquial conversation however if a worker was speaking to a manger about a work related item this would be done formally or semi formally. An example of this, language used in a courtroom is almost exclusively formal and highly ritualised. Most people interacting in this situation have an extremely high level of education and so use a lot of formal terms and a large amount of jargon, to the point that it may be almost indecipherable to the layman. Terms such as habeas corpus and absentia are understood by the judge and the lawyers due to the educational and vocational background, but may mean nothing to the plaintiff, defendant and audience. When writing to customers or third parties a formal level of communication would be used, however, in this circumstance technical jargon would be avoided as the customer or third party may not know the meanings behind the jargon. Within a work place there are other forms of written communication that is written in a formal or semiformal manner, these may be items such as message boards, work place notification or policies and guidelines. The context of the document would dictate if the wording was formal or semi-formal. Within a blue collar environment written communication may be minimal however in the field of construction for example the written communication may be from an acutecture to the construction team via blue prints so the team know what to build and the best methods used to complete this. This communication would also include measurements, diagrams and ratios to explain to the construction team the size and shape of build.
